Wet Rooms in Tamworth

Fully tanked wet rooms with proper falls to the drain, non-slip finishes and level-access options: watertight, walk-in, and built to last.

What's involved

Proper Wet rooms in Tamworth

01

Fully tanked

The whole floor and lower walls tanked and waterproofed: a wet room stands or falls on this.

02

Correct falls to drain

The floor formed with the right gradient so water always runs to the drain, never pools.

03

Non-slip & safe

Slip-resistant floor tiles and finishes so the walk-in shower is safe wet.

04

Level-access options

Step-free, walk-in wet rooms: ideal for accessibility and a clean modern look.

05

Ground floor or upstairs

A concrete ground floor takes a wet room simply. Upstairs, the floor is checked, stiffened and fitted with a proper former before any tanking goes on.

06

Help with adaptations

Where a wet room is for someone with a disability, Tamworth Borough Council may help through a Disabled Facilities Grant after an assessment.

Wet rooms FAQs

What makes a wet room watertight?

Two things: tanking the whole area, and forming the floor with proper falls so water always reaches the drain. We do both, it is the core of the job.

Do you do level-access (step-free) showers?

Yes: walk-in, step-free wet rooms are one of our most-requested jobs, great for accessibility and a sleek finish.

Will a wet room leak into the room below?

Not if it is tanked and drained properly, which is exactly what we build in. Cutting corners here is what causes leaks. We do not.

Can a wet room go upstairs in a Tamworth house?

Yes. The floor is checked for strength and stiffened if needed, and a former is fitted between the joists so the fall to the drain is built in. Chipboard is replaced in the shower area first, because it does not tolerate water.

Is there any help for an older or disabled relative?

There can be. Tamworth Borough Council handles Disabled Facilities Grants for adaptations such as level-access showers, usually after an occupational therapist has assessed what is needed. It is worth contacting the council before booking any work.

How long does a wet room take?

Usually a week to ten days. The tanking and screed have to cure before tiling, and the whole area is water-tested before the first tile goes down.

A wet room is the hardest thing a tiler does, because it has no tray to hide behind: the whole floor is the shower, and it all has to drain and stay dry. We form the falls to the drain, tank the entire area, and tile it with a non-slip finish so it is safe underfoot. Get any of that wrong and it leaks into the room below; get it right and it is the best shower in the house.

Tamworth bungalows and ground-floor flats suit a wet room well, because a concrete floor lets the fall be formed without touching any joists. Upstairs on a timber or chipboard floor it is still possible, but the floor has to be stiffened and a former fitted between the joists first.
